Overdrive Pedals

Overdrive saturates the signal the way an amplifier does when pushed to its limit: it compresses dynamics, adds harmonics and responds to picking and guitar volume. The clipping diode changes the character of the distortion — silicon cuts harder, germanium rounds off, LED opens up more headroom. VTR overdrives expose that choice as a control instead of fixing it in the circuit.
